Browser Extension Setup

Integrate Mpalo's powerful AI memory capabilities directly into your web browser. The Mpalo Browser Extension allows you to bring Palo's contextual understanding to any webpage, making your research, reading, and browsing more intelligent and efficient.

Setup & Installation

Getting started with the Mpalo Browser Extension is simple. Follow these steps to install and configure it.

1. Installation

Currently, the Mpalo Browser Extension is awaiting approval on the official Chrome Web Store. Once available, you will be able to install it with a single click.
(Instructions for manual installation for developers can be provided here if needed).

2. Logging In

After installing the extension, click on the Mpalo icon in your browser's toolbar. You will be prompted to log in to your Mpalo account.

  • Enter the email associated with your Mpalo account.
  • You will receive a verification link in your email. Click on it to complete the login process in a new tab.
  • Once verified, the extension will automatically log you in and grant you access to its features.

Note: OAuth providers like Google, Apple, and GitHub are not yet supported but are planned for a future release.

Core Features

Chat with Palo

The core of the extension is a chat interface that allows you to communicate with Palo. You can ask questions, summarize text, or start a conversation about the content you are viewing.

API Key Selection

Before you can start a conversation, you must select one of your Mpalo API keys from the dropdown menu. This ensures that your usage is tracked correctly under your account. You can create and manage your API keys from the Mpalo Workbench.

Read Page Context

The "Read Current Page" button is one of the extension's most powerful features. When you click this button, the extension's content script will:

  1. Scan the currently active browser tab.
  2. Extract the page title and all readable text content.
  3. Load the extracted content into the chatbox.

This allows you to immediately use the page's content as context for your prompts to Palo. For example, you could ask "Summarize this article for me" or "What are the key arguments on this page?".

Configuration & Future Features

While the initial version of the extension is focused on core chat and context-reading functionality, we have many more features planned based on our roadmap. Future releases will include more granular configuration options, such as:

  • System Prompts: Set custom system prompts to guide Palo's behavior.
  • Metadata: Attach custom metadata to your conversations for better organization.
  • Palo Model Selection: Choose which Palo engine (e.g., Lite, Deep) to use for your conversations.
  • Pricing Tab: A dedicated tab to view and manage your subscription plan.
